This numbers claim just doesn't add up

At the Campton Township Republican Party candidates' forum of Jan. 9, village opposition clerk candidate Carolyn Higgins stated only 19 per cent of village residents voted in the Campton Hills incorporation election.

Unless this includes children and unregistered adults, the true figure can only be found as a percentage of registered voters.

See for yourself on the Kane County clerk's Web page.

Follow these directions: click on Kane County, government, elections, election results, archived election results -- 2007 Consolidated Election -- canvas, proposed Village of Campton Hills (at bottom of page -- move tabs). Be patient and move the tabs slowly. It will come up.

When you do that you will find there were 8,464 registered voters and 4,162 ballots cast, for a 49.17 percent turnout. Of those votes, 2,272 were "yes" and 1,844 were "no." The "yes" votes represent 55 percent of those cast.

The turnout in Campton Hills was a record for a consolidated election. Kane County's turnout in the same election was 22 percent.
