Current events
Current events club member and Huntley Village Trustee Jay Kadakia responded to questions of members meeting Jan. 22 regarding two proposed major development projects in the village. One development, Huntley Town Center, would cover over 400 acres north of Main Street, east of Coyne Station Road and south of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The project would include up to 2,000 housing units, big-box and other retail stores, restaurants, business offices and an assisted-living facility. Among other benefits, the village would receive developer assistance in financing a full access interchange at I-90 and Route 47. Mertz Development, Inc., developer of the Town Center project would also extend Algonquin Road west to Marengo Road as a part of the $800 million to $1 billion venture. Mertz hopes to start work in 2009.
The second project proposed, by The Portofino Group, would involve more than 100 acres west of Route 47 between Regency Parkway and Deicke Park. The plan ultimately calls for apartments, a movie theater and retail stores, all in an Italian setting including plazas and artificial lakes. The development would be adjacent to Sun City, which prompted club members to suggest building a tunnel under the creek which runs along Sun City's perimeter so residents could have golf cart access. Sun City's own "chunnel," in the words of some.
