Elgin roommates charged with breaking into car
Two Elgin roommates were arrested Wednesday and accused of breaking into a car, police said.
Ezequiel Salmeron, 41, and Julio Campos, 34, both of 118 Hinsdell Place #2, each were charged with felony vehicular burglary, police said.
At 2:26 p.m. Wednesday, a witness called police and said two men had broken the a window on a silver Toyota on the 800 block of North Grove Avenue, police said.
Then the two men stuffed items from the car into two black garbage bags and ran off, police said.
They were caught a few minutes later two blocks away at Douglas and Cooper avenues, police said.
Campos said in court he was unemployed; Salmeron said he worked for a temporary agency.
Both said in court they were not U.S. citizens.
Bonds were set at $6,000 for Salmeron and $3,500 for Campos.
Neither could post their bonds and both were taken to the Kane County jail.
They are next scheduled to appear in court Feb. 14 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
