Des Plaines dentist to give kids a smile

A Des Plaines dentist will be helping some area young people with some pro bono work.

Dr. Harold Wyckoff Jr. today is participating in Give Kids a Smile, an American Dental Association event in honor of Children's Dental Health Month.

Free dental work will be offered all day today to children ages 7-16, of Self Help Closet & Pantry clients.

That will include a dental examination, cleaning, X-ray and fluoride.

All the children who will visit Wyckoff's office already have made those arrangements.

Heart of a Marine: The Heart of a Marine Foundation will host its annual fundraising Hearts of Valor Ball on Feb. 16.

Founded by the Elk Grove Village parents of Marine Lance Cpl. Phillip E. Frank, who was killed in Iraq in 2004, the foundation strives to provide comfort, financial help and educational resources to military personnel, veterans and their families.

The event will be held at Meridian Banquets, 1701 Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows.

The Hearts of Valor Ball is a tribute to the men and women who have served and are serving our country. All military branches, ranks, and civilians are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Tickets are $90, which includes cocktail hour, dinner, open bar and raffles.

Board game donations: The Cumberland School after school program is looking for gently used board games. Donations may be dropped off at the school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The school is at 700 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. Call Chandra Eby (847) 827-4262.
