Coalition unites to fight transfer tax

CHICAGO -- Nine local organizations held a press conference Thursday denouncing the proposed real estate transfer tax hike that will go before the Chicago City Council on Wednesday. If passed, the increase will raise transfer taxes on all Chicago real estate transactions by 40 percent, to roughly $10.50 per $1,000. It currently is $7.50 per $1,000. The groups include the Chicago Association of Realtors, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and Chicagoland Apartment Association.
