Prochno: Setting the record straight
I am replying to a letter in the Jan. 26 Daily Herald by my opponent.
I am a proud Republican who has never pulled a Democratic ballot. My opponent stated that my agenda supported taxpayer incentives to support illegal immigration and that I am against transportation and economic development of O'Hare.
Her allegations are directly opposite of the public record. At the League of Women Voters forum held in Arlington Heights on Jan. 12, we were both asked the question as to whether we supported rights for illegal immigrants.
I answered the question straightforward: No, only legal immigrants are entitled to rights; what part of "legal" does one not understand?
Concerning O'Hare, I support the modernization of O'Hare but oppose the extensive use of "quick take" and eminent domain by the City of Chicago of property within Elk Grove Village or any other Northwest suburban community.
As stated in the Daily Herald of Jan. 22, I stated I am concerned that if the O'Hare expansion plan proceeds, the Centex Industrial Park that serves the entire Northwest suburbs could lose 22,000 jobs and 700 businesses.
My family has owned a business in the Northwest suburbs for 60 years. I have received the support of a number of Illinois businesses and believe that job retention and job growth is important for the residents of our area. I have received support from the Illinois Medical Society, Illinois Bankers Association, Illinois Hospital Association, Manufacturers' Association and Tooling and Manufacturers Association.
I have been endorsed by the Daily Herald, the Chicago Tribune and the Pioneer Press. I ask the voters to give careful consideration to my experience and commitment.
