League of Women Voters to hold forum

Today is one of the final opportunities to hear the candidates for the 14th Congressional District Representative seat before Tuesday's primary elections.

Both the Democratic and Republican candidates have been invited to participate in this forum that will use a moderated format.

The two Republican candidates vying for the 16th Circuit Judge position will introduce themselves to the audience in the first 15 minutes of the forum.

Sponsored by the Elgin Area League of Women Voters, the forum will be at 7 p.m. today at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

The primary election will be unusual, as voters will be casting votes on two ballots in the 14th Congressional District. One ballot will be for the regular primary election to determine which Democratic and Republican candidate will compete in the November general election.

The second ballot will be for the special primary to choose which two candidates will compete for the opportunity to fill out the remaining term of the now retired Congressman, Dennis Hastert.

The Democratic and Republican candidate winning the special primary will be on the ballot in the special general election March 8.

This event is open to the public, and all citizens of the district are encouraged to attend. As always, the candidates are invited to meet and greet the audience informally after the forum.
