FDA approves new Calcitriol injection

BUFFALO GROVE --Akorn Inc. announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted approval for its new injection form of Calcitriol. Calcitriol is used in the management of hypocalcemia in patients undergoing chronic renal dialysis. It significantly reduces elevated levels of parathyroid hormone. Annual sales for Calcitriol were around $6 million in 2007. The injection form will be manufactured in Decatur. Calcitriol Injection should be launched in the second half of 2008.
