Earlier Chicago curfew closer to reality
The Chicago City Council's police committee has approved a proposal to rollback curfew for children under 17 as a way to cut down on youth violence.
Children would have to be off Chicago streets by 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends, under Mayor Richard Daley's plan. That is 30 minutes early that is currently required.
Chicago police predict the earlier curfew would make young people safer by keeping them off the streets and away from crime.
Some alderman had said they were worried the new curfew would burden police officers, but police have said that's not an issue.
