Cubs-Padres final Hall of Fame Game

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. - The Baseball Hall of Fame Game has been an annual tradition in Cooperstown, New York, for more than six decades. But it will end after this year's contest between the Cubs and San Diego Padres.

Hall of Fame officials say Major League Baseball decided that keeping the game was too difficult because of the complexities of the major league schedule.

The first Hall of Fame Game was in 1940, and it's the last surviving in-season exhibition game on the major league schedule.

The Cubs also played in the inaugural game, beating Boston 10-9 despite a pair of home runs by Ted Williams.

This year's game is slated for June 16th.
