Cops bust meth lab in Bensenville
A methamphetamine operation in Bensenville became crystal clear to DuPage County sheriff's officers after an anonymous tip sparked weeks of surveillance.
Authorities Monday announced that they arrested Lawrence Schoenbeck, 60, and Eric Oliver, 23, on Friday after discovering a methamphetamine "finishing" operation at a home in the 4N400 block of Ridgeland in Bensenville. The home belongs to Schoenbeck.
The operation took raw methamphetamine, a powdery substance, and refined it into crystal meth, a form of the drug that generally is in higher demand.
Police seized more than 200 grams of the substance, worth about $40,000 on the street. They also took various drug paraphernalia, a 2003 Toyota Scion and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Schoenbeck and Oliver each were charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class X felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both men were being held on $1 million bonds at the DuPage County jail. They'll both appear in court on Feb. 25.
Police said the tip came to them through the DuPage County Crime Stoppers program. To report a crime, contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
