'Yes' for fire board elections
In North Aurora, there is a citizen request to have the North Aurora fire protection board face election instead of being appointed by the Kane County Board.
A group of residents failed to put the question on the ballot last spring, but collected about 1,000 signatures to get it on this time. The board's reaction? They're fine with it. And so are we. We recommend a yes vote.
It's not that a publicly elected board guarantees success -- as we've seen, some appointed fire boards in the area have done a good job as well.
We also don't see any problems with the way the North Aurora board has conducted itself. But passing this measure does give people more direct control over the board.
