U.S. has a right to hold prisoners

As a former Catholic who is still a Christian, I find it shameful to read such comments as sent by Fr. Corey Brost (Jan. 11 Fence Post) regarding the situation at Guantanamo Bay.

His is another letter demanding that we respect the "rights" of those who were taken from the battlefield while warring against our troops.

He laments the silence of the American people while these detainees languish in a prison where they have been catered to, where their religious practices have been respected, where they have eaten well and put on pounds unless they are refusing to eat.

Worst of all, this position indicts our troops as liars and incompetents by the implication that they took prisoner just anyone and not legitimate combatants, as well as the staff at the prison, that they are brutal and abusive in doing their jobs.

Well, perhaps Fr. Brost can be the one who finally answers the question: In which war did we try POWs directly after capture while the war was ongoing rather than after it was won? I can't recall ever hearing there was such a time. What I do recall is hearing of released detainees killed after again taking up arms against our troops.

So Fr. Corey can join his voice with Colin Powell, the international community or anyone else who disagrees with the justifiable imprisonment of those who try to kill our people and be just as wrong as they.

Priest, lawyer, teacher. All these titles and not an ounce of common sense . Yes, Father. The detention of these people is indeed OK with me.
