Seeking explanation, not special rules

May I urge Wilton Tidwell (Jan. 18) to re-read my first letter, "Why the different approach on photos?"

In my letter, I used the word "renewed." I have had four driver's license pictures before and after 9/11. I was never asked to show my hair or ears in any of these pictures. I could still have used my 2003 Illinois driver license photo and renewed by mail.

Also, I have no wish to change the laws of this country. If you had read my letter more closely, you would have read that I had made an observation on the picture of the young lady pictured in the Dec. 30 article whose hair completely covered her ears.

My only question was, and is: Is there a new regulation for Muslim women to show their hair and ears? As I only wear a head scarf, my facial features, eyes, nose, etc. are completely visible. As for my picture, you cannot really see my earlobes in detail, and anyone who isn't color blind would know that due to my complexion, my hair would be dark.

Of the many things I admire about this country are the basic rights guaranteed in the Constitution, such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, etc.

I ask Tidwell not to make assumptions. I love this country and what it stands for!
