Polakow to coach Antioch

Antioch has named Marni Polakow as its new head boys soccer coach.

Polakow will replace Jorge Anduray, who resigned at the end of last fall's season due to his eventual relocation to the East Coast.

Polakow is a Stevenson graduate who participated in cross country, basketball and soccer. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, where she participated in soccer for four years.

During that time she captained the squad for two years and was selected to the Mountain West Conference and Verizon District VIII All-Academic Teams. Polakow served as president of the Student Athlete Advisory Board and was the student representative to the UNLV Intercollegiate Athletic Council.

After graduating from college, Polakow worked in college athletic departments and for minor league sports franchises before creating a soccer club in Las Vegas.

Upon returning to the Midwest to complete work on her masters, she served as an assistant boys and girls varsity coach at Stevenson. She began teaching physical education at Antioch this school year, serving as an assistant boys soccer coach at Grayslake North and head girls freshman basketball coach at Antioch.

"We feel fortunate to be able to hire a coach with Marni's excitement and passion for the sport of soccer," Antioch athletic director Steve Schoenfelder said. "Her professional background will be an asset not only as a coach, but also in developing a program that had many underclass athletes participating on the varsity team last year.

"We will certainly miss all of the energy Mr. Anduray brought to the program, but believe Marni is the ideal candidate to continue the rebuilding process Mr. Anduray has put in place. Our interview committee felt her background would be an asset in working with our athletes."
