Hersey to hold 'Motivation' talk

John Hersey High School invites parents to attend an hour-long presentation, "Motivating Your Student," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in the school library, 1900 E. Thomas, Arlington Heights. The program is scheduled for the beginning of second semester when academic weaknesses of the first semester can be targeted and addressed. Topics include graduation requirements, how to motivate students, a review of current Hersey student academic progress, and parental strategies to promote student success.

Annual prayer breakfast Feb. 7

The Mayor's 21st Annual Community Prayer Breakfast will be held at 7:15 a.m. Feb. 7, at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest, 3400 W. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights.

Jon Ridler, outgoing executive director of the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce, will act as Master of Ceremonies for the event. The Rev. Sheri Rupert will give the invocation, and the presentation of colors by the Salute Inc. Mayor Arlene Mulder will deliver welcoming remarks and be followed by Joel Goldberg, reading from the Old Testament, and Dr. Tom and Pat Harris with a reading from the New Testament.

John Sonderegger will deliver the message focusing on "Celebrating our Heritage" as Americans, community members and people of faith and diversity. The Prospect High School Madrigal Signers will entertain.

Seniors continue Pot of Gold Raffle

The Rolling Meadows Senior Center is sponsoring a Pot of Gold Raffle during 2008. Purchase each raffle ticket for $20 and be eligible for regular monthly drawings through December. There will be four monthly cash awards of $100, $50, $25 and $25. Drawings are held the first Thursday of each month Winners need not be present for the drawing and will be notified individually. A list of winners also will be posted monthly at The Senior Center, 3705 Pheasant Drive, Rolling Meadows. For details, call (847) 818-3205.

Tickets that have won in previous months will be put back into the pool and are eligible to win again each month. There is an opportunity to win one or more of 48 prizes. Proceeds will be used to maintain and improve the Senior Center, its services and events.

Stop by the Senior Center office 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be purchased.
