• Christine Westerkamp of Arlington Heights is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship award from The Baxter International Foundation. The scholarships are awarded each year to outstanding students who intend to enroll at an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school.

Westerkamp was selected from more than 250 applicants. Students may apply if a parent is employed for a minimum of three years by the foundation's sponsor, Baxter International Inc. Scholarship recipients are selected competitively on the basis of their academic records and personal achievements.

• John Deger of Rolling Meadows was inducted into the Lambda Sigma Honor Society of Northern Illinois University, DeKalb. Lambda Sigma is an honor society of sophomore students who exhibit distinguished ability and achievement in four areas: scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service. A minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and enrollment in good standing with the university are required for application. Selection is based on leadership and service to the university community during the student's freshman year.

• Todd Burkoth of Arlington Heights, a student in the College of Athletics at Winona State University in Minnesota, is the recipient of the Madeo and Rosemary Molinari Student Athlete Scholarship for the 2007-08 academic year. Each recipient must be academically exceptional and enrolled part- or full-time as an undergraduate or graduate student seeking a degree. Selection is based on the student's academic record, major and financial need.
