Trustee praised for protecting privacy

We want to congratulate Lombard Trustee Richard Tross for his stand on protecting the privacy of those who contact him via e- mail.

In a Jan. 19 Daily Herald article by staff writer Kathryn Grondin, he was quoted as saying he'd rather face legal trouble than compromise their confidentiality.

"When a resident contacts me, they have every reason to expect confidentiality, whether it be at Jewel, at church, on the phone or via e-mail," Tross said. "They don't need their name bandied about. Any e-mail user not only has a right and expectation of privacy, but should demand it."

In these days of having government poke into every aspect of our private lives for no valid reason, it is refreshing and encouraging to hear of a man of admirable character who has the courage to stand up for what he knows to be the right course.

Thank you, Trustee Tross. We wish you were our trustee. Our only question is, where were all the other Lombard trustees? Why didn't they back you up on your stand?

It's good to know there are some politicians who will go out on a limb for their constituents.
