Say 'yes' to District 75 referendum
We, the parents of students at Lincoln Elementary School in Mundelein, are writing to urge support for the Mundelein District 75 referendum.
The board of education is seeking voter approval to issue bonds for school repairs and life safety purposes ($6,600,000) as well as to air condition ($3,300,000) the schools.
Every 10 years, the Illinois State Board of Education requires school districts to complete a Life Safety Survey to monitor the condition of school buildings. This work includes roof replacements and repairs.
In addition to the survey, the board gathered input from parents and teachers. The board determined that other school repairs are needed to replace aging systems and equipment including old boilers, broken sewer lines and other infrastructure needs for the safe operation of the schools. Because we need to replace many old classroom heaters, it makes sense to decide now if we want to buy units that also provide air conditioning.
Each school is holding an open house for voters to view for themselves the condition of our buildings. Visit one or all of the schools from 7 to 8 p.m. on the following dates: Mechanics Grove today, and Carl Sandburg, on Jan. 30.
While Lincoln School may need the fewest repairs of the four schools, we feel that providing a healthy, safe environment for our children to learn and a better place for our teachers to teach, will benefit the district residents.
