Village manager lauded for his service

Buffalo Grove Village Manager Bill Brimm was honored Monday night for his 30 years with the village.

He started working in Buffalo Grove on Jan. 16, 1978, as finance director, and Village President Elliott Hartstein said his initiatives helped the village gain financial reporting awards.

Brimm was promoted to assistant village manager a few years ago and then to village manager in 2006.

"I've appreciated the challenge every day," Brimm said.

New leader (for a while): Interim Wheeling Village President Judy Abruscato will be handing over the gavel to Trustee Pat Horcher today after her 233 days as the village's leader expire.

The board decided to have three trustees rotate as village president after President Greg Klatecki resigned last April due to back problems.

Abruscato served from June 4 through this Wednesday. Horcher will be interim president from today through Sept. 12, and Trustee Dean Argiris will take over from Sept. 13 through elections in April 2009.

Argiris thanked Abruscato at a board meeting Tuesday for her leadership in the past months.

"I'm sure we'll all work with Trustee Horcher as you all have worked with me," Abruscato said.

Horcher's first official meeting as residing president will be Monday.

Adults get their chance: Buffalo Grove's Limelight Cafe will focus on adults this month, with "Talkin' About My Generation: Limelight Cafe -- All Grown Up!"

The show for musicians, comedians and entertainers over the age of 21, sponsored by the Buffalo Grove Arts Commission, will be at 8 p.m. this Saturday at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive.

Admission is $8 a person and $15 for two people.

For more information, e-mail BGArts@vbg.org or call (847) 459-2530.

Collecting music donations: The Buffalo Grove Singers are collecting used or new CDs, MP3 players, iPods, accessories, portable stereos and portable DVD players to donate to the pediatric unit at Northwest Community Hospital.

The group picks a fundraising or community awareness project each year and decided on this one for their 15th anniversary to keep with the theme of their March concert, "I Love That Song."

All donated music should be appropriate for infants through young teenagers.

Drop boxes will be at the Buffalo Grove Park District's Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive, and village hall, 50 Raupp Blvd., through March 16 to collect donations.

Monetary donations are also welcome and will be used to purchase musical items. Make checks payable to the Buffalo Grove Park District and indicate the money is for the BG Singers 2008 Fundraiser. Checks can be mailed to Lindsay Grandt, 530 Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove, 60089.

For more information about the BG Singers and for tickets, call Grandt at (847) 850-2132.
