Re-enactor to bring Frank Lloyd Wright to life

Frank Lloyd Wright and his work will be brought to life by Lyman Shepard for members and guests of The Libertyville-Mundelein Community Associates of The Art Institute when the group meets Feb. 7 at the Fremont Library in Mundelein.

Dressed in authentic costume, flowing cape and porkpie hat, Shepard will depict Wright's long, prolific and stormy career; his controversial and often melodramatic personal life; unorthodox cultural attitudes; and his belief in a democratic American architecture.

Historic slides will show Wright's creative journey from his early Wisconsin years to his formative apprenticeship with Louis Sullivan and into the golden Oak Park years of the Prairie Style.

In addition, group member Marlene Elkins will review "Loving Frank," by Nancy Horan, a book about Mamah Borthwick Cheney. Cheney and her husband commissioned Wright to build a house and during construction, a powerful attraction developed between Wright and Mamah, and in time they embarked on a course that shocked Chicago society.

There is no cost for the event but registration is required. The deadline to sign up is Jan. 31; call Norma Seymour at (847) 362-1905. This program is open to members and guests and anyone interested is encouraged to attend.
