Not guilty plea in St. Charles attack

A man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to offenses in a late November rampage at a St. Charles home that slightly injured his brother and elderly mother.

Charles F. Miller, 51, of Machesney Park, has been indicted on two counts each of aggravated battery and resisting police in the Nov. 24, 2007 ruckus in a home on the 500 block of Cedar Avenue.

Miller is free on $125,000 bail and is due in court again March 18.

Police have said Miller became enraged during 5 a.m. argument with his brother, whose head was smashed into a 50-gallon glass aquarium, which held a pet snake.

He also "bear hugged" his elderly mother before he was locked out of the home, and smashed a door to get back inside, police said.

After police arrived, Miller was uncontrollable so officers used Taser guns to take him into custody. Tests showed he was drunk and had cocaine in his system at the time of the incident, police have said.

It took staples to close the gash on Miller's 42-year-old brother's head. His mother was treated for scratches on her arm, police have said.
