City-bound train derails

A freight train bound for Chicago derailed in central New York early Wednesday, dumping about a dozen cars from the tracks, authorities said. The CSX train derailed in the village of Canastota, 20 miles east of Syracuse, shortly after 6 a.m., said Madison County Sheriff Ronald Cary. The train was carrying truck containers on flat cars. Between 10 and 15 cars derailed, Cary said. The engineer and conductor were not hurt.
