Briefs: Comment on Bull Creek

The public is invited to review and comment on the proposed Bull Creek/Bull's Brook Watershed Plan. The plan summarizes conditions and problem areas and identifies actions to improve water quality, restore natural drainage, reduce flooding and other measures. The watershed is a 14-square-mile area that includes Libertyville, Mundelein and Grayslake as well as small portions of Gurnee and Waukegan. Last chance for Bears gear

Lake Zurich High School Bears fans have until Tuesday to order state championship football gear. An order form can be picked up at the high school or downloaded from the school's Web site at www.lz95.org/lzhs/bearbooster/SchoolStore.htm. The Illinois High School Association 7A state football championship apparel includes T-shirts and sweatshirts that can be ordered in youth and adult sizes. Checks should be made payable to Lake Zurich High School Bear Boosters. Completed order forms and payment should be sent to Lake Zurich High School, 300 Church St., Lake Zurich, IL 60047, or dropped off at the booster store located in the school cafeteria. The booster store is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Ordered items can be picked up from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the high school cafeteria, or 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 14 and 15.

Carmel senior a scholar

Alejandro Zuniga-Penaranda, a member of Carmel Catholic High School's senior class, recently was recognized as a scholar in the 2007-08 college board's National Hispanic Recognition Program. The National Hispanic Recognition Program, established in 1983, provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors and identifies them for post-secondary institutions. Students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as high school juniors. This year, the program is recognizing more than 4,000 students for their academic achievements who were selected from a pool of 196,000 students who took the PSAT/NMSQT and identified themselves as Hispanic.
