Bring back the pride in Big Hollow

In 1979, I was a Big Hollow cheerleader. We cheered loudly, "We're from Big Hollow, we couldn't be prouder!"

In 2008, I am a mother of three Big Hollow students, and I am not proud of what is happening to our school.

It is appalling that in 2008 my children are not receiving critical educational programs, such as computers, art and music.

Big Hollow has grown from 400 students to more than 1,400, and without the funding we need for operational cost, there are 36 children in a fourth-grade classroom.

Yes, it is true that we have new beautiful buildings, but building funds and operational funds are not the same. Builders pay impact fees for buildings. They do not pay impact fees for operating the school (books, supplies and much needed teachers).

Big Hollow was a district to be proud of and the homes were sought after. If things do not change, our children and community will suffer.

We can and will rise back to the caliber we once were. We need the community to support Big Hollow. If you have children in District 38, vote yes. If you have had children in District 38, vote yes.

Big Hollow School District 38 is your home's biggest asset. It will cost a family for roughly $32 a month based on the average home value in the area of $280,000. True if your home is worth more it will cost more, but if the referendum fails, how much will your home be worth?

Your yes vote for the Big Hollow school district Feb. 5 will give the community of Big Hollow their pride back.
