Metra train hits car, kills driver in Downers Grove
A 29-year-old man is dead after a Metra train struck his vehicle Tuesday evening near the Maple Avenue crossing in Downers Grove, officials said.
The unidentified man was in traumatic arrest when Downers Grove fire officials took him to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital by ambulance, but DuPage County coroner's office officials later confirmed that the man died.
His name was not being released late Tuesday pending family notification.
Metra's Burlington Northern Santa Fe line to Aurora was delayed after a train hit the vehicle at 4:43 p.m., officials said. The train was scheduled to arrive in Aurora at 4:56 p.m. Tracks were closed while officials investigated.
