Lake County police look into fatal snow plow accident

Police continue to investigate a snow plow accident that killed a Waukegan man early Tuesday morning.

Miguel Gonzales was walking at about 6:15 a.m. in the parking lot of a building at 3100 Grandville Ave. in Waukegan when a snow plow backed into him, fatally injuring the man, according to Waukegan police.

"It just looks like he got behind the snow plow," said Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller. "(He) just was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Gonzales, 34, of the 1100 block of Ridgeland in Waukegan, died of multiple traumatic injuries, Keller said.

Cmdr. Wayne Walles of the Waukegan Police Department said law enforcement officials are still investigating the accident.

No tickets had been issued and the name of the driver of the snow plow, which was private and not government-owned, was not being released, Walles said. The driver was operating a 2001 Chevrolet C3500 pickup with a plow at the time of the crash.

In a press release, police said it was determined neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the accident.
