Kane health board welcomes two familiar faces to community

Two familiar faces in the local health community -- one a former Kane County Board member -- were introduced in their new roles to the Kane County Board's public health committee Tuesday.

Doug Weigand, a Batavia resident who sat on the board from 1992 to 2004, is the new director of emergency services for the Fox River chapter of the American Red Cross. A longtime volunteer with the St. Charles-based agency, he was hired earlier this month and will work cooperatively with the county's office of emergency management.

The Kane County Health Department, meanwhile, introduced a new deputy director of emergency management, Sean Madison. Madison has been with the agency 15 years, most recently as part-time deputy director in charge of the volunteer corps.

In his new role, Madison will oversee the county's natural hazards mitigation program and will coordinate the new countywide emergency exercise as required by the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program.

Madison, an Elgin resident, will earn a $51,000 annual salary.
