Red-hot DePaul clips 16th-ranked Notre Dame
Deidre Naughton scored 20 points and DePaul shot a season-high 60 percent to beat No. 16 Notre Dame 81-80 on Tuesday night in South Bend, Ind.
The Fighting Irish (15-4, 3-2 Big East) had a chance to win in the closing seconds, but Holly Medley stole the ball from Charel Allen with two seconds left and dribbled away as the clock ran out.
DePaul (14-4, 3-2) shot 72 percent in the first half and beat the Irish for the third straight time.
The Irish were within 71-70 when Allen hit a 3 with 4:37 left. But the Blue Demons stretched the lead to 5 moments later when Natasha Williams scored inside and Allie Quigley made a pair of free throws.
Brittany Mallory's 2 foul shots for the Irish cut the lead to 81-80. Quigley (16 points) caught the inbounds pass and, while being covered by Mallory, lost her dribble out of bounds to give the Irish a chance with four seconds left.
Ashley Barlow scored a career-high 23 points for the Irish.
Rutgers 71, Cincinnati 41: Kia Vaughn scored a season-high 17 points, and Heather Zurich added a career-high 16, leading fifth-ranked Rutgers (16-2, 6-0) to a 30-point victory over host Cincinnati (10-8, 1-5).
Rutgers has won its last 11 games, its best streak since it ran off 13 in a row in 2005-06. The Scarlet Knights are off to their best start overall in 17 years.
