Blagojevich games cost schools money

Governor Rod Blagojevich says he is the people's governor, someone trying to make a positive impact on Illinois families. However, he has held Illinois students hostage by stalling significant legislation that would increase education funding.

The governor recently cost school districts millions of dollars by sitting on the legislation for two months that would dramatically increase education funding.

He waited to sign the bill until the final day before it would automatically become law. He made two minor changes that will now have to be approved by the Senate and the House.

That means school districts will have to wait even longer before they receive this much-needed state aid.

Until the changes are passed by the General Assembly, schools will continue to be paid last year's general state aid that is $400 less per student than what is allocated for Fiscal Year '08.

Our schools have enough financial problems without the governor adding to them. Illinois families deserve more.
