Plum Grove Road project hits halfway mark
A $4 million reconstruction of Plum Grove Road is on schedule and should be complete by late June or early July, said Fred Vogt, Rolling Meadows' Director of Public Work.
"They're working on the underground utilities right now," Vogt said. "The crews are working through the cold weather, although they may have to pick their days for the next week or so."
About two-thirds of a mile of Plum Grove Road - from Aldridge to Emerson avenues - is being stripped and rebuilt. Work started last July.
Traffic signals and turns lanes are also being added at Kirchoff Road and Euclid Avenue, Vogt said.
Federal and state funds will pay for the majority of the $4 million project. Rolling Meadows is contributing between $100,000 and $200,000 for sidewalk and bike path improvements, Vogt said.
"After the project, the state will turn over jurisdiction of the road to the city," he said. "Then we'll be in charge of maintenance and upkeep."
The new Plum Grove Road should last between 30 and 40 years, Vogt said.
At various times throughout the project, Plum Grove's four lanes will be reduced to two lanes. During this time, Vogt urges drivers to find another route.
"There will be delays," he said. "If they can, drivers should use Quentin or Hicks."
