Inverness residents warned to lock up

Police were still searching Monday for whoever burglarized three Inverness homes in one night last week.

Barrington-Inverness police are reminding residents to keep their doors locked after the string of burglaries. Police are unsure if they're connected.

Deputy Chief Jerry Libit said it's important that residents, especially in Inverness where the burglaries occurred, make sure their homes and cars are secured at all times.

Since there were no signs of forced entry at any of the homes where the burglaries occurred, police say their advice is simple: "People need to lock their doors," Libit said.

Authorities said the burglaries occurred overnight Thursday at three Inverness homes while their occupants slept.

Police said a laptop computer was stolen from a home on Canterbury Lane, a purse from a home on South Ela Road and an iPod from a home on Marie Drive. No other items were reported stolen from any of the homes.

"It appears to be limited to just those single items," Libit said.

Residents in the homes, Libit said, discovered the thefts when they woke up Friday morning.

Libit said two of the homes are very near each other; the other is not within walking distance.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Barrington-Inverness police at (847) 304-3300.
