Eagles roll at Somonauk

All but one player on the Aurora Christian girls basketball team scored in the Eagles' nonconference 61-34 win at Somonauk on Monday.

"It was a good game," Aurora Christian coach Dan Stone said. "We had the day off (of school for Martin Luther King day), and sometimes you never know what will happen."

The Eagles (11-10 overall) responded nicely after outscoring Somonauk 16-5 in the first quarter. They led 39-7 at the half.

Rachel Mertens led the way with 17 points.

"She came out tonight and had a great performance," Stone said. "No one could stop her."

Teammate Nicolle Hamm also had a great game with her 10 points and team-leading 11 rebounds.

"She did a good job," Stone said. "She brings a lot of energy to the team."
