Let's move on to some real news
To the editor: I'm very happy to see on today's front page that our mayor's old desk has finally been sold. Maybe now the Daily Herald can start devoting some of this valuable space to real news. I believe this is the third article on the subject, including a picture of the desk complete with the mayor's "signature" Diet Pepsi can. Perhaps now that the village has its showplace village hall and the mayor has her legacy, our village officials will get down to business.
As noted on the cable access channel, with 547 square feet of space per employee in the new building, they will have to work very hard to keep track of the work going on at the new village hall. It's disappointing that our village has fallen into the trap of trying to keep pace with other surrounding municipalities. We demolished a perfectly good building, that village officials claimed was too costly to maintain. As if this new building will simply maintain itself.
If lack of space was an issue there is perfectly good space available just across the street in the beautiful but very underutilized town center. I know the argument; it's inefficient to have village offices in different buildings. Somehow the government was able to function very well for the past two years in temporary space. It was clear that once the "bar was raised" with the extravagant public works facility, it was just a matter of time before the village hall was inadequate. Isn't it time that people question how some of these projects serve the community?
Hopefully now that there is space available in the newspaper the Daily Herald can raise some of these issues.
