Here is what's in the news at Elgin Area School District U-46 schools.
Ellis
• On Friday after school, the seventh-graders at Ellis Middle School in Elgin will be sharing and demonstrating their science projects during the annual Science Share-a-Thon. Students began working several months ago on their projects by choosing a topic, coming up with a research question and designing an experiment developed around the scientific method.
Lords Park
• On Tuesday, a health clinic, sponsored by Greater Elgin Family Care Center and U-46 Health Services, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lords Park Elementary School, 323 Waverly Drive in Elgin. This also will occur on Feb. 19 and April 15. Call for an appointment at (847) 608-1344. Services provided include: well baby exams, school and sports physicals, shots, lead or diabetic screening and care for minor illnesses.
Parkwood
• On Wednesday, a health clinic, sponsored by Greater Elgin Family Care Center and U-46 Health Services, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at Parkwood Elementary School, 2150 Laurel Ave. in Hanover Park. This will also occur on Feb. 20 and April 16. Call for an appointment at (847) 608-1344. Services provided include: well-baby exams, school and sports physicals, shots, lead or diabetic screening and care for minor illnesses.
Sycamore Trails
• On Thursday, a school spelling bee will be held in the library of Sycamore Trails Elementary School in Bartlett.
Timber Trails Elementary
On Friday, Timber Trails Elementary School in Hoffman Estates will host an ice skating family event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hoffman Estates Community and Ice Arena on Higgins Road. The cost per ticket will be $3 for advance purchases and $4 at the door. This price includes free ice skate rental and skating for 2 hours.
Washington
• On Thursday, fourth- to sixth-grade students at Washington Elementary School in Elgin will participate in a performance titled, "I Need A Vacation!" at 7 p.m. at Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Ave. in Elgin. The families are invited to attend this free and entertaining event.
In other news
• South Elgin High School Economics classes are participating in a stock market game. Students throughout the state of Illinois compete with each other buying and selling stocks. The school has two students who have continuously ranked in the top ten out of 480 students taking part in the activity. Both students, Scott Frank and Kevin MacArthur, are seniors at the high school and were ranked No. 1 in the state the week of Jan. 7.
