Health center open house
An open house will be held Wednesday at a new health center in Arlington Heights that offers improved access to care for uninsured and underinsured residents of the Northwest suburbs. The new center, ACCESS@Northwest Community, a joint venture of Access Community Health Network and Northwest Community Hospital, will hold its open house from 9 to 11 a.m. at 675 W. Central Road, Suite 101. People can tour the center, meet staff and learn about costs of services. The center offers pediatric services, general adult care, physicals and immunizations, and chronic disease management. The Access Community Health Network is comprised of 50 accredited community health centers in the Chicago area. One-third of its patients are uninsured. Asian dinner in Rosemont
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend "Dawn of New Asia 2008" at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. It is the Asian American Coalition of Chicago's 25th Anniversary Annual Lunar New Year Celebration. Every year, a different Asian community takes turns hosting and this year it is the Pakistani-American community. Tickets are $70 per person and include program, dinner, entertainment and parking. This is traditionally the single largest organized annual event in the Asian-American community. The Asian Pacific American population represents about 3.9 percent of Illinois residents. Support4Vets event
Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs Director L. Tammy Duckworth will be the special guest speaker at the Support4Vets meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Forest View Education Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights. The meeting is open to the public. Support4Vets was started in September to build a network of volunteers to serve returning veterans.
