Madden Challenge: The park district will hold its own version of the 2008 Madden Challenge from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Grayslake Park District Rec Center. The format will be a double-elimination tournament; age groups will be divided into different brackets if numbers permit. Younger age groups will play first. All games will be played on PlayStation 2 with the 2008 Madden game. Tournament brackets will be sent to all participants. A prize will be awarded to the division winners. Pizza and other refreshments will be available for purchase. This tournament is not affiliated with any other Madden challenges or tournaments. Cost is $25 for residents, $30 for nonresidents.

Daddy/Daughter Dance: The park district's annual Daddy/Daughter Dance will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 9 at Country Squire Restaurant and Banquets, 19133 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake. The menu for this year's dinner will be as follows: Chicken Vesuvio for the dads and choice of hamburger or chicken nuggets for the kids. Fresh fruit cocktail, chef salad, twice baked potatoes, California blend vegetables and cake will also be served. In addition to dinner, there will be a DJ, contests, prizes and dancing. Each child will receive a special keepsake. Choose child's entree at time of registration. Registration is required, and will close Saturday, or when the limit of 300 people is reached. Cost is $60 per resident parent/child pair, $75 for nonresident pair, $28 for each additional child and $39 for each additional adult without a child.

Scrapbooking 101: Instructor Rebecca Quackenbush is an experienced scrapbooker who enjoys helping others get organized and create beautiful scrapbooks.This class is designed to give quick tips on how to sort and organize photos in just one evening.Participants will also learn the basics of scrapbooking and how to complete quick and simple pages.Bring two to eight pictures of a family trip or recent event to create a page to take home. This is a contractual program. Register now for Session 236010A from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Grayslake Rec Center, Multipurpose Room A. This class is for adults and cost is $15 for residents, $19 for nonresidents. Register by Jan. 29.

Dodgeball Night: Boys and girls ages 8 to 12 can join the Grayslake Park District for an evening of dodgeball from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 15 in the Grayslake Rec Center Gym. No knowledge of the game is necessary. Wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes. Bring a water bottle. Cost is $15 for residents, $18 for nonresidents. Register by Feb. 2.

Managing Your Career: Learn how values, motives and competencies provide clues for insight into which career direction to pursue, and develop a well-formulated career plan. This is a contractual program. Choose from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 2 (Session 239015A); 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 27 (Session 239015B); 9 to 10:30 a.m. April 12 Session (239015C); or 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 22 (Session 239015D). All classes are held in the Grayslake Rec Center Multipurpose Room A. This class is for ages 16 and up. Cost is $26 for residents, $33 for nonresidents. Register at least two weeks prior to class.

Mother/Son Date Night: This event for boys ages 4 to 8 and their moms will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 8 in the Grayslake Rec Center Gym. Come dressed to play in comfortable clothes and gym shoes. Participants will play game, eat pizza, play more games and decorate cookies for dessert. Each child will go home with a goodie bag. Register early, space is limited. Cost is $36 per resident parent/child pair, $45 per nonresident pair and $15 per additional child.

Digital photography: Ages 16 and older will learn how to take better pictures and use tools like Photoshop Elements to organize and enhance favorite shots. Students are welcome to bring a camera to class. The next will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 9. Classes will be held in the recreation center second level multipurpose room.

Cost is $52 for residents and $65 for nonresidents. Register at least two weeks prior to class.

Adult infant child CPR: This class is open to anyone age 16 and older who would like to learn techniques or refresh their memory on how to save lives through cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Learn how to perform rescue breathing, clearing an obstructed airway and perform one-rescuer CPR. All participants are eligible for an American Heart Association certification that is valid for two years. This class is not health care provider certified.

Participants must pick up a book at the park district office prior to class. A session will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Grayslake Fire Station, 160 Hawley St. Enter through service door between garage doors.

Cost is $32 for residents and $42 for nonresidents. Register two weeks prior to class.

Jump shout cheerleading: This instructional clinic will expose first-through fourth-grade girls to basic cheerleading. In this six-week clinic, girls will learn to perform floor cheers, sideline cheers, jumps and stunts. The emphasis is on fun. This clinic is a lead-in to the travel basketball cheerleading squads.

The next session will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 25 to April 7 at the Gymnastics Factory, 888 E. Belvidere Road, Suite 202. There will be no class March 24 or May 26. Cost is $63 for residents and $79 for nonresidents.

Watercolor painting: Open to ages 12 through adult, this class will offer tools and tricks used in creating watercolor paintings. Lessons will cover steps to create basic compositions and tricks and techniques to make painting easier. Subjects include landscapes, barns, seascapes, florals and class-recommended favorites.

A suggested supply list and instruction sheets will be supplied before the first class. This is a contractual program.

The next session will be offered from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 26 to April 8. There will be no class March 25. Classes will be held in the recreation center multipurpose room A.

Cost is $65 for residents, $81 for nonresidents, $60 for senior residents and $75 for senior nonresidents. Register two weeks prior to class.

Basic First Aid: This class is for anyone who would like to learn techniques or refresh their memory on how to safely administer basic first aid. The class discusses how to implement basic first aid techniques that covers a variety of injuries. Participants are eligible for an American Heart Association Certification valid for two years, however, this class is not healthcare-provider certified. Participants must pick up a book at the park district office prior to class. Register now for Session 239020B on Feb. 27. Classes are held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Grayslake Fire Station, 160 Hawley St.; enter between the garage doors. This class is for ages 16 and up. Cost is $32 for residents, $42 for nonresidents.

Youth yoga: The class will integrate movements that duplicate animal stretches with breathing techniques to reduce stress and promote energy. Students ages 8 to 11 must be able to work independently and sit quietly.

Sessions will be offered from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 27 to April 9. There will be no class March 26. The class will be in the recreation center second level multipurpose room.

Cost is $50 for residents and $63 for nonresidents. Register two weeks prior to class.
