Reception celebrates newest exhibitors at local gallery

Two retired Harper College art professors, Ben Dallas and Michael Brown, join in an exhibit together in "Multiple Dimensions" through Feb. 26 at the Northwest Cultural Council's Kimball Hill galleries.

A sculptor, Brown works in Indiana limestone because its neutral gray color, subtle grain and fine texture make his work unthreatening.

"People bring their own experiences and history to art," he says. "I want them to return to my work again and again, seeing it from many perspectives."

Influenced by his experiences with historical, architectural and sacred sites, Brown seeks to create a form that invites the public to touch, sit down on, or step up to the piece.

Dallas will display his "Serial Works." He says, "My works are serial amalgamations, where painting functions to visually equate and coexist with the forms I make. The combination offers an assortment of dualistic composites.

"The paintings I do is more varied than the constructions I combine it with. Once developed, I utilize a shape, repeatedly changing only its scale and proportions from one work to another."

The Northwest Cultural Council invites the public to a reception celebrating these accomplishments from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the galleries, 5999 New Wilke Road, Suites 307 and 308 in Rolling Meadows.
