Reflections on Cardwell's passing

Though I left Arlington Heights in 2005 and currently reside in Henderson, Nev., I still catch the stories online just about every day.

Your article about the death of Don Cardwell brought back many memories as I was a young kid of 13 at the time (I'm 61 now) who was actually at that incredible game at Wrigley Field when he pitched that no-hitter.

It's still fun to see the final replay every once in a while on WGN watching two kids, my friend Mike and I, jumping up and down behind the screen as the final pitch was thrown and the late Walt "Moose" Moryn made that shoestring catch to preserve Don's no-hitter.

Those were the days when it wasn't a problem getting a seat in Wrigley Field, idolizing Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Billy Williams, and yes, some kid named Lou Brock.

My sincere condolences to the family of Don Cardwell and the memory of that one special day in Wrigley Field so long ago.
