Morris deserves voters' support
On Jan. 5, I was proud to be in attendance at an event honoring a few exceptional men. The event was the first Joseph McCarthy Awards, held at St. Cajetan Church on the South Side of Chicago.
The McCarthy Group was founded by Joseph McCarthy, a Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient for his actions at Iwo Jima during WWII. The reason this is relevant is that one of the men honored that night was Kirk Morris, Republican candidate for Congress in the 8th Congressional District in Illinois.
Kirk received the "Citizen of the Year Award" for his outstanding work with Illinois veterans following the death of his son, Pfc. Geoffrey Morris, in 2004.
Those who know Kirk personally, as I do from his work with Barrington's annual Freedom Fest, know his commitment to veterans and those serving currently is something he doesn't broadcast for his own benefit.
He just believes when you see something needs to be done, you stand up and do it.
Whether it's taking a group of wounded veterans hunting in Montana, raising funds for the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund through the Pfc. Geoffrey Morris annual Fishing Tournament or intervening on behalf of the wounded that need a voice, Kirk has been there.
It's about time the people who are standing up for others are recognized and honored. And it's about time that we have a representative in Congress like Kirk Morris.
I urge everyone who can, to go out on Feb. 5 to cast your vote for Kirk Morris, a man who has earned my utmost respect.
