Laws of majority must be followed
I find it amusing that a Muslim would come to this country, founded by Christians and run under a system of laws made by Christians and Jews, and want us to change to laws of a minority that are in conflict with the laws made by a majority population.
I am an American Indian and we owned the whole continent, but we are now conforming citizens of the majority that replaced our natural law with laws I consider superior to ours.
Picture identification is useless if we allow Indians to wear a feather headdresses and war paint, or the Lone Ranger to wear a mask, or Muslim women to wear a burka.
The Australian prime minister got it right when he warned Muslim immigrants about the rule of law. He said his nation would welcome newcomers who wanted to experience Australian freedoms, but they shouldn't expect Australia to conform to Sharia law. He told them to conform to Australian law or exercise the same freedom they used to get to Australia to leave it.
The majority rules there and here. May I give Maznah Ramli (Jan. 9 letter) the same advice? She wants to live here. She wants to drive and when confronted by a policeman who wants to see her identification, she shouldn't expect him to look at a picture of a person with her head and most of her face covered and be happy.
No, expect to hand him or her a picture of your head, fully exposed and to pull the same off while you are identified and then pull it back on, as you are free to do.
