Warrant issued in attack
Four of the five people arrested in an attack on a jewelry salesman in downtown Arlington Heights last fall were arraigned Thursday on charges of unlawful vehicular invasion, theft, robbery and obstruction of justice, officials with the Cook County state's attorney's office said. A warrant was issued for a fifth suspect -- 25-year-old Ricardo Montaivan of Chicago -- when he failed to appear in court. Prosecutors said they were told Montaivan missed his court date because he was in the custody of federal immigration authorities. They said they were checking into the accuracy of that statement. The others charged in the November attack -- Eliu A. Alverio, 42, of Chicago; Vanessa Ortiz, 19, of Chicago; Jhoana Rancan, 35, of Chicago; and Ana Yolima Sanchez, 27, of Miami -- are set to be back in court Feb. 21. The group is accused of robbing the salesman of about $800,000 worth of jewelry as he got into his car.
