Spill closes Route 59

Route 59 in Bartlett was closed for about three hours Thursday after a diesel fuel spill. Bartlett police said Martin Gutierrez of Buffalo Grove was driving a tanker truck north on Route 59 about 2:45 p.m. when he had to brake suddenly to avoid hitting cars stopped at the Bartlett Road intersection. The truck jack-knifed, and 50 gallons of fuel spilled on the road, police said. Route 59 reopened about 5:30 p.m., after a hazardous materials crew cleaned up the fuel, police said. Gutierrez was not ticketed.
