Police join fire probe

Chicago police detectives are investigating the cause of a fire at a home-based day care that killed a young boy. An autopsy is scheduled for today for 22-month-old Darjon Taylor, who died in Wednesday morning's fire at Porter's Playhouse. Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said fire officials conducted a preliminary investigation and police detectives now are handling the matter. Langford said the home did appear to have had a working smoke detector system. In November, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services cited the home for three licensing violations, including a lack of working smoke detectors. The day-care operator was ordered to fix the problem immediately.
