Thanks for illegal immigration input

The Association for Legal Americans would like to thank the Elgin citizens who voted and voiced their concerns about Elgin's illegal alien problems. We have approximately 3,000 people who responded and we are receiving more feedback daily. Your comments have been sincere and your voices filled with frustration.

We invited the mayor and city council members to read your comments. Ed Schock, Juan Figueroa, Mike Powers, and John Steffen never bothered to respond to the offer. Seems they had no interest in reading your replies.

We took the initiative and e-mailed them a sample of your comments. Unbelievably, we were told to cease all e-mails, and the reason? It annoyed them!

Our mayor and council say they may agree to adopt the Access program. This is a watered-down version of the full 287(g) program. They say they don't want to intimidate certain segments of our population. The 287(g) program only addresses illegal aliens that are arrested for crimes. Who are they afraid of offending?

Every Elgin citizen needs to ask, who do these gentlemen represent?

The mayor and council reported that Elgin has adopted a policy stating that all contractors and vendors who work for the city must use legal workers. We asked who enforces it? Their answer, no one. Vendors and contractors work on an honor system. They want us to believe they enacted a policy that forbids illegal workers on city projects. Who's kidding whom?

AFLA has requested 100 percent screening of all people arrested and let Elgin citizens know how many crimes have been committed by illegal immigrants through a monthly report of those arrests. The screening will shine the spotlight on the criminal aliens in town and create a paper trail for immigration officials if someone is released and commits more crimes.

The 2009 elections can't come soon enough. AFLA members demand change and represent a huge voting block that is growing larger every day. We need to send a message to these politicians. If you are legal, Elgin welcomes you, and if you are not, you will not be welcome here.

Go to our Web site at www.legalamericans.net or write us at AFLA, Box 6692 Elgin, IL 60121-6692. Let us know your how you feel. If we expect change, every voice needs to be heard.
