Teen charged as adult

Bond was set Tuesday at $50,000 for a student accused of trying to bring a loaded handgun into Bowen High School in Chicago. Nyeem Cole, 16, has been charged as an adult with unlawful use of a weapon in a school zone. Cook County state's attorney spokesman Tandra Simonton said if convicted, Cole faces up to five years in prison. Cole is a student at New Millennium School of Health, one of several schools in the Bowen building. Officials said guards on Monday found the .38-caliber revolver with two rounds of ammunition while X-raying Cole's backpack before he entered the building. Authorities said Cole told investigators the gun was his, but he forgot it was in his bag.
