• Cadet Matthew Alec Raygoza, son of Richard and Betty Ciesiolka of Arlington Heights, completed Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.
Raygoza was among the cadet candidates who concluded their training with a 12-mile road march from Camp Buckner to West Point on Aug. 13. New cadets were officially accepted into the Corps of Cadets at an Aug. 18 Acceptance Parade.
Raygoza is a 2007 graduate of John Hersey High School who plans to graduate from West Point in 2011 and be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
The mission of the U.S. Military Academy is to educate, train and inspire the Corps of Cadets so each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the nation as an officer in the United States Army.
• Army National Guard Pvt. Jeffrey D. Reiners, son of David and Kittie Reiners, Arlington Heights, graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
During the 14 weeks of training, Reiners received instruction in weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and tradition. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing the use of various weapons and weapon defenses available to the infantry crewman.
Reiners is currently attending the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
