College to name building after Lee Daniels

Illinois Rep. Lee Daniels' mark on Elmhurst, his hometown, now will be indelible.

The Elmhurst College board of trustees recently voted to name a building on campus after the former Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives.

In March, the college's Computer Science and Technology Center will be permanently renamed Daniels Hall in honor of his consistent support of Elmhurst College, said its president, Bryant L. Cureton.

"It was quiet work without personal showmanship," Cureton said in a written statement. "The cumulative impact on the college has been immense."

The building houses computer labs and the Health Professions, as well as the departments of computer science and information systems, mathematics, foreign languages and literatures, geography and geosciences, the Gretsch Recording Studio, the Instructional Media Center and a weather station.

A celebratory event to unveil signs and make the name change official will be held in March.

Daniels has been a member of the Illinois House since 1975 and has served as majority whip, minority leader and Speaker of the House.
