Speeding car plunges into Fox River in Batavia; man's body found inside
A Batavia Public Works employee first spotted the car speeding across a parking lot before splashing into the Fox River Monday night. Hours later, divers located the car on the river bottom. They found the body of the man inside it.
"A couple police units arrived. They did see a vehicle in the water, the headlights and taillights were on. It was moving with the current, down river. It had moved about 150 yards down from where it entered and then it sunk under the water," said Gregory Thrun, Batavia Police Department.
Because of the frigid conditions and swift river currents, officials postponed the recovery of the car, with the man's body still inside it, until daylight.
