City secures O'Hare funding
Chicago has procured federal funding for key parts of its expansion of O'Hare International Airport. U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says Chicago will receive $42 million to cover the costs of a new air traffic control tower. Durbin says the tower is a vital part of the planned $15 billion airport expansion. Durbin announced the funding Monday along with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. They stood in front of the partially completed tower, which officials say will begin operations in late November. The 440-acre O'Hare project calls for expanding and reconfiguring runways to reduce delays. It also calls for building a new terminal with more gates and parking on the airport's west side.
